Pastel & Oil Paintings by Shannan Nicole
Solo Exhibition • Perth • Coming 2027
Two contrasting forces. One collection.
A journey through light, landscape and emotion.
Perth artist Shannan Nicole is currently creating a major new body of work for her upcoming 2027 solo exhibition, Between Stillness & Storm.
Bringing together two distinctive sides of her artistic practice, the exhibition will feature pastel paintings alongside expressive abstract oil paintings, exploring the space between quiet and movement, softness and strength, light and darkness.
The journey begins with more than 50 pastel paintings accumulated through years of teaching and demonstrating pastel techniques. Many began as demonstration pieces during Shannan’s classes and have remained unfinished — until now.
Throughout 2026 and into 2027, Shannan will revisit, develop and complete selected works while creating new pastel paintings specifically for the exhibition.
Alongside them will be a collection of original abstract oil paintings characterised by dramatic skies, luminous horizons, sweeping movement, layered texture and atmospheric landscapes.
Together, these works will form Between Stillness & Storm.
STILLNESS
Pastel brings softness, observation and intimacy. Detailed landscapes, wildlife and moments captured in light invite the viewer to slow down and look more closely.
STORM
Oil brings movement, texture and emotion. Shannan’s abstract landscapes and seascapes explore changing skies, turbulent water, fleeting light and the powerful atmosphere of the natural world.
And somewhere between the two is the story this exhibition will tell.
The exhibition is still being created, and for the first time Shannan will be sharing the process as it unfolds — from unfinished demonstration paintings and works in progress to new oil paintings, studio experiments, final selections and the completed exhibition.
